Course Curriculum

The Basic Echo Skills Workshop covers a range of topics, including but not limited to:

  • Acute Rheumatic Fever and Rheumatic Heart Disease assessment

  • Echo assessment of acutely unwell patients including tamponade and shock assessment

  • Cardiac chamber size and functional assessment

  • Valvular assessment

  • Reporting and escalation pathways

  • Physical principles of ultrasound and commonly encountered artefacts

We aim to run practical courses and therefore over 50% of the workshop is hands on scanning. We utilise equipment you are likely to encounter in practice such as portable handheld devices and units currently deployed within both Darwin and Northern Territory community clinics.
